The first step of the Senate impeachment trial has been completed, with the Senate voting on the rules of the trial after more than 12 hours of debate on Tuesday.
Things got heated late Tuesday night as Republicans blocked several attempts by Democrats to subpoena documents and call witnesses for the trial. In the end, that decision was pushed until next week, after opening arguments and a round of Senate questioning have been completed.
The trial is set to resume Wednesday afternoon with Democrats making their opening arguments, followed by President Trump's defense team making their arguments starting on Saturday.
