El Dorado County officials are limiting the number of vacation rentals in the South Lake Tahoe area. The area currently has 726 permitted vacation homes in Lake Tahoe, which draws nearly 3 million visitors each year. The county's Board of Supervisors decided to cap the number of permits at 900 in the unincorporated areas of the county.
The new ordinance requires property owners to have a vacation rental permit granted through the county in order to operate. Violators will be fined.
