Nationwide Not-For-Profit Hospice Care Continues Amid COVID-19

Family members of those facing serious illness or end-of-life face a difficult journey. There’s a new nationwide hospice number that makes it easier for families to find not-for-profit hospice and palliative care providers in their communities.

Hospice care is especially crucial now amid the spread of COVID-19 and it’s vital that families remember hospice and palliative care providers are still visiting homes and that ‘complete care’ can now be found and coordinated by calling one phone number.

“Mental health, physical health, social support, social isolation is an issue for many of our patients during this period in their lives,” explained Tom Koutsoumpas president and CEO of the National Partnership for Hospice Innovation. “And, we provide care regardless of the ability to pay. Our focus is on the patient, the family, and the mission, providing the highest quality care.”

National Partnership for Hospice Innovation (NPHI) launched the nationwide referral number to focus on safely caring for people with serious illnesses at home. You can call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When you call, you’re connected with local not-for-profit hospice programs no matter where you are or where your family member in need is.

“If you’re in California and you’re worried about Mom who’s in Texas or on the East Coast, you don’t know where to go or where to turn, this allows you that opportunity to access that information about providers in your community,” said Koutsoumpas.

“Clinicians, doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, but we also have social workers. We have CNA support, clergy for people who are interested in mental health support, bereavement counselors as well as chaplains.”

More than 70 not-for-profit providers of at-home care nationwide joined forces under the umbrella of the NPHI. NPHI is a collaborative of 70+ not-for-profit, community-integrated, hospice and palliative care providers from across the United States who play a unique role as a crucial safety net for the sickest, most vulnerable patients in the communities they serve.
