Bulldogs open spring season with mid-week home meet

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 6 Fresno State equestrian team hosts Delaware State and University of Minnesota Crookston in the spring season opener on Thursday at the Student Horse Center.

Parking and admission are free.

Bulldog Bones

Fresno State opens the spring season on Thursday, hosting two teams on the day.

Fresno State ended the fall season with a 9-9 tiebreaker win over Oklahoma State on Nov. 22.

Fresno State opened the year with three wins in-a-row and enters the spring with a 4-3 overall record.

The Bulldogs will have four of their first six spring meets at home.

Fresno State has been consistently inside the NCEA Top 10 this season after not appearing in the rankings once last year.

The win over Oklahoma State saw a defeat over the No. 4 team in the rankings. It was the 15th Top 5 victory in Fresno State program history.

Fresno State and Delaware State are meeting for the first time since the two programs once shared a conference in the United Equestrian Conference, before the 'Dogs moved to the Big 12.

Western 'Dogs

Fresno State is 29-32-8 in the western events.

The Bulldogs have 15 wins in the horsemanship and 14 in the reining.

Last time out, the western squads struggled against a strong Oklahoma State corp, scoring only one point in the two events.

Fresno State has won the western portion of rides in two meets, tied in two and lost three.

A pair of horsemanship 'Dogs in Abby Goddard and Kendra Lee lead the group with 4-2-1 records.

Lee leads the group with two MOPs on the year.

Goddard has one MOP and freshman Hailey Olson also has one.

In the reining, Brogan Hill has the best record with a 3-2-2 mark and one MOP.

Alana Becker, Shelby Robinette and Adrianna Runzo also have three wins a piece.

Runzo leads the reiners with two MOPs.

Jumping Seat 'Dogs

Fresno State is 33-32-3 in the jumping seat event this season.

The Bulldogs have 19 wins in the fences and 14 in the flat.

Fresno State's flat unit is coming off of a 5-0 sweep against Oklahoma State, securing the win in the meet. It was the first sweep in the flat for the Bulldogs since March 4, 2023. Coincidentally also against Oklahoma State.

Freshman Paris Mahoney leads the flat group with a 4-3-0 record, with one MOP.

Yasmin Roman and Autumn Bradbury also own flat MOPs from this season. Bradbury earned the MOP with an 88.5 against Oklahoma State.

In the fences, three riders pace the team with five wins – Mahoney, Paloma Primavera and Averey Pritchard.

The trio also leads the team in MOPs as Mahoney has three, Primavera adds two and Pritchard has one.

Scouting the opponents

Delaware State is 2-3 on the year, and opens the spring in Fresno.

The Hornets closed out the fall season with a 13-7 home win over South Dakota State.

The University of Minnesota Crookston is 0-4 on the year with NCEA meets against Delaware State, South Carolina, UC Davis and South Dakota State.
