'Dogs fall to ranked Trojans

LOS ANGELES - Fresno State suffered their second road loss of the season against No. 5 USC at the Galen Center on Tuesday night, 89-40.

The Australian duo led the scoring charge, Mia Jacobs and Holly Griffiths. Each logged 11 points for the night. Griffiths double-figure game marks her first of the season and a new season-high.

How it happened

Fresno State got it started inside the Galen Center as Mia Jacobs let rip a three-pointer for the Bulldogs first basket of the night. 'Dogs largest lead of the night was brought by Jacobs with a pull up jumper off a her own steal. Trojan's Watkins responded with a three pointer jumper and held the lead from then on. USC saw a 8-0 scoring run with three trips to the line (1-1) all within a minute of play. Kylee Fox had the next basket on deck on a pull up jumper outside the paint. Another Trojan 8-0 caps off the first ten, 22-12.

The start of a season-high game for Griffiths arrived as the Bulldogs worked to chip a twenty point Trojans lead. Griffiths connected back-to-back shots from the perimeter on her first points of the night. Avery Watkins

was the other Bulldogs able to get a basket in. USC neared a thirty point lead after a 10-0 run going into the half, 46-20.

At the half Fresno State shot 28% (8-28) from the field, 40% from the three (4-10) with no trips to the charity stripe.

Trojans saw their success on the court with double-digit scoring runs in between Fresno State baskets. Griffiths had her eye on the target, hitting the deep three tonight. The forward went 3-of-3 from beyond the arc to see a season high 11 points. Griffiths snapped a USC 9-0 run with her third three-pointer of the night.

Jacobs jumps back into a scoring groove with the teams seventh three-pointer of the night. A shooting foul on USC"s Iriafen sent Jacobs to the line (1-1). Saga Ukkonen and Fox held on for the final points of the night, from no other place then beyond the arc.
