BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Fresno State swim and dive earned a clean sweep in a tri-meet with Roadrunners and Sunbirds at the John S. Hillman Memorial Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon.
It was a meet for the freshman, as three freshman Bulldogs grabbed an event win this afternoon's tri-meet. Sienna Cheng-Lucey grabbed her first collegiate event win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.47 and Ryley Clark in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.83. Parker Connor placed first in the 1-meter springboard with 227.80 points.
How it Happened
Fresno State held a strong edge over both opponents from the first touch of the meet. Bulldogs' A & B relays took the top spots in the 400 medley relay.
First of many full podium spots for the 'Dogs. Fresno State goes one through three in the 1000 freestyle. Laura Kalmar far ahead of the pool touches for a time of 10:27.77, a season best. Marija Rutkauskatie followed in second with a time of 10:51.07 and Madison Caserio grabbed third (10:54.64).
Backstroking freshmen powerhouse's Sienna Cheng-Lucey and Ryley Clark each took an event win. Cheng-Lucey won the 100 backstroke a second ahead of the competition pool with a time 56.47. A four second lead over the Roadrunners secured Clark the event win in the 200 backstroke (2:03.83). Franzi Djatej capped third place in the 200 back (2:09.12).
Sam Arredondo and Laura Kalmar faced off in the 200 breaststroke. Arredondo held a two second lead over Kalmar at the final touch. The pair matched at the start, splitting a 32.5 in the opening 50. Arredondo pushed through to get a three second advantage over Kalmar in the middle hundred. Despite a second faster split by Kalmar in the final 50-yards, Arredondo held off for the win.
On the springboards, Parker Connor finished 20 points ahead to take the 1-meter springboard event, Grace Ally placed second with 206.95 points. Ally then took the event for the 3-meter with 244.65 points and Connor for second with 222.20 points.
"The divers did great, Parker had her first win and personal best on the 1-meter," said dive coach Taryn Patrick. "Grace was very consistent and they both went 1-2 in both events."
