FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State men's head basketball coach Vance Walberg announced two more additions this weekend in guards Joshua Bonga from Germany and Troy Jenkins from Newport Beach. They are the seventh and eighth additions this offseason to his 2024-25 roster.
Bonga moves to Fresno after playing last season in ProA, the second-tier German professional league, and the NBBL, a German league for players under 19. In 18.1 minutes per game with Rasta Vechta II, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound point guard averaged 6.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists. Playing 26.2 minutes per outing with Quakenbrueck in the NBBL, Bonga helped his U19 team to the NBBL championship while averaging 14.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals. He is also member of the U20 German National Team.
"JB impressed us early on watching his film because of his outside shot making ability and ability to play multiple positions on the floor," Walberg said. "He comes from a strong basketball background with his brother playing in the NBA so he knows what a good work ethic is supposed to look like. He's already played older, stronger players and we hope that translates to our league. He's also representing his national team and we think that's a great honor and look forward to seeing his success this summer."
Bonga has also spent a season with Fraport Skyliners in Germany and Zalgiris II in Lithuania.
Jenkins was the second-leading scorer last season at Crean Lutheran, averaging 8.7 points per game. The 6-foot-4 guard also added 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per outing. Jenkins helped the Saints to an Empire League championship.
"We got a chance to watch Troy interact with our players and staff and thought he was a good fit for what we are wanting to build in our culture and for his continued development on the floor," Walberg said. "He was a former IUPUI commit and is a good 3-point shooter so it made all the sense to bring him in this season. He's a smart kid and a hard worker and we think his best basketball is still ahead of him. Excited to add him to the Bulldog family."
Before moving to Crean Lutheran, Jenkins played at Sonora High School where he was a First Team All-Freeway League in 2023 while leading the Wildcats to a conference championship.
