Five Bulldogs named to MW 25th Season Softball Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West is celebrating its 25th Season of excellence on and off the field of play. During each Mountain West Championship in 2023-24, the Conference will recognize a 25th Season Team.

Among the 25 players and 10 pitchers selected for this honor was current Bulldog Keahilele Mattson and former Bulldogs Brenna Moss, Kierra Willis, Jill Compton and Hailey Dolcini.

Mattson, a four-year Bulldog, has started all 202 games of her career in left field. She ranks No. 5 in the program record book for career slugging percentage (.571) and No. 6 in career home runs (29). The Alta Loma, Calif. native was the 2021 Mountain West Player of the Year and Co-Freshman of the Year. She was a 2021 NFCA All-Region Second Team honoree, as well as a two-time All-Mountain West First Team selection (2021, 2023). She helped lead Fresno State to a Mountain West Championship in 2021. Mattson has 206 career hits and 121 RBIs.

Moss was the 2014 MW Player of the Year, a three-time All-MW selection and a two-time NFCA All-Region selection during her four years as a Bulldog. She made 217-of-221 career starts as Fresno State's center fielder and leadoff batter. She helped lead Fresno State to a Mountain West Championship in 2015. Moss is the program leader in stolen bases with 104, ranks No. 3 in triples (19), No. 6 in runs (171), No. 9 in hits (263). The Bakersfield, Calif. native ranks No. 5 with a single-season batting average of .439 , No. 2 in triples (9) and No. 3 in stolen bases (34). The lefty slapper was selected as the 13th pick in the third round to the Chicago Bandits during the 2015 National Fast Pitch College Draft, being the first Bulldog drafted by the NPF since 2005.

Willis was the 2016 MW Player of the Year, three-time All-MW selection, two-time NFCA All-Region selection. Willis helped lead Fresno State to back-to-back Mountain West titles (2015, 2016). The outfielder played 217 games for the Bulldogs during her career. The Pleasant Hill, Calif. native had 182 career hits and 137 RBIs. Willis ranks No. 1 in career walks (130), No. 3 in triples (19) and No. 9 in slugging percentage (.552). She is No. 2 in the record book for single-season triples (9) and No. 4 in walks (40).

Compton earned back-to-back MW Pitcher of the Year accolades and four All-MW first-team selections as she led the 'Dogs to two straight MW titles. She was a three-time NFCA All-Region Selection. She accumulated an 88-40 record in 161 appearances, with 686 strikeouts in 821.2 innings pitched and a 2.62 ERA. Compton finished her Bulldog career on the top 10 list in several all-time pitching categories, including appearances (161, 2nd), games started (135, 2nd), wins (88, 6th), consecutive wins (15, 3rd), complete games (87, 10th), innings pitched (821.2, 7th), strikeouts (686, 6th), strikeouts per 7/IP (5.84, 6th), saves (5, 4th) and no-hitters (3, 10th). Compton then played professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch League for the Dallas Charge in 2016.

Dolcini was the 2021 MW Pitcher of the year and three-time All-MW selection as she helped lead the Bulldogs to the 2021 MW title. She was a 2021 Softball America All-American Third Team selection and NFCA All-Region honoree. Dolcini had a breakout season for Fresno State in 2021 appearing in 31 games including 29 starts to finish the season with a 22-5 record (No. 14 NCAA). She owned a 1.12 ERA (No. 11 NCAA) through 180.2 innings of work, while dishing 259 strikeouts (No. 13 NCAA). She ranked No. 1 in the NCAA with 14 shutouts including two perfect games to record the 16th and 17th perfect games in program history. The Ferndale, Calif. native earned 14 MW Pitcher of the Week awards in her career, tying the MW record.
