A. Kalmar breaks program record twice on third day of MW Championships

HOUSTON- Fresno State swims big on the third day of Mountain West Championships closing the day in fourth place with 572.5 points.

Aliz Kalmar broke the 100 breaststroke program twice with a preliminary time of 1:00.19 and again in finals with a time of 1:00.05. Kalmar's 100 breaststroke finals time makes the third time she has broken the program record this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fresno State started the morning on a strong note. For the second time this season, Aliz Kalmar broke the program record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.19 in the preliminary session, qualifying her into the championship A final.

Sera Hanagan, not slowing down anytime soon, earned an NCAA B qualifying time in the 400 IM (4:17.20), also during the preliminary session. Hangan secured the time cut just .10 faster than the time standard of 4:17.30.

Strongest event of the day for Fresno State was the 100 breaststroke. Six Bulldogs qualified to finals, A. Kalmar and Pulkkinen to the A final, Allie Byrne in the B final, Brooke Beauvais, Laura Kalmar and Sam Arrendondo in the C final.

Back for more in finals, Fresno State saw their highest number of championship finals this meet with five. The 200 freestyle relay of Dabrowska, Hutler, Matney, Pulkkinen took the podium first in third. Matney started off the individual events with the 100 butterfly A finals finishing in 6th (53.87). Hanagan followed suit, taking fifth in the 400 IM (4:17.25). Wiktoria Dabrowska took eighth in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.58.

In the race of the night, Kalmar comes back for seconds to break the program record in the 100 breaststroke, just hours later. Kalmar takes the silver medal with a new time of 1:00.05.

NOTES

For the third time this season and fourth time in her career as a Bulldog, Aliz Kalmar has broken the program record in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.05)

Sera Hanagan earns an NCAA B cut in the 400 IM with a time of 4:17. 25 (NCAA B - 4:17.30)

Fresno State saw five Bulldogs in an individual championship A final; Sera Hanagan (400 IM), Julia Matney (100 butterfly), Aliz Kalmar (100 breast), Jenna Pulkkinen (100 breast) and Wiktoria Dabrowska (200 free)

Fresno State saw two podium finishes tonight with the 200 free relay (3rd, Dabrowska, Hutler, Matney, Pulkkinen) and Aliz Kalmar (2nd, 100 breast)

Jenna Pulkkinen's time of 1:01.61 in the 100 breaststroke puts her at the second fastest time in program history

Julia Matney's time of 53.87 in the 100 butterfly puts her at the second fastest time in program history

Bulldogs move up another spot into fourth place only 54 points behind Colorado State

UP NEXT: The final day of Mountain West Championship starts with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breast, 200 fly, 1650 freestyle and women's platform. Action begins at 10:30 a.m. CT/ 8:30 a.m. PT on the Mountain West Network.
