COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State's Rachela Pace was named Mountain West Women's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. It is the second straight week the Bulldogs have had an Athlete of the Week.
Pace earned the honor after breaking the Fresno State triple jump record on Friday at the Spokane Sports Showcase with a mark of 13.29m/43-7.25 en route to winning the event. She recorded three jumps of at least 12.99 meters in her series. Pace's previous best jump indoors was 12.11m/ 39-8.75 with an outdoor best of 12.62m/ 41-5.
She is just one of three Fresno State triple jumpers to ever record a mark over 13 meters.
A native of Dingli, Malta, her jump ranks No. 4 in the NCAA this season and leads the conference.
Pace also placed fourth in the long jump at the meet with a season-best mark of 5.87m/19-3.25.
