Sherrod picks up national honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Fresno State junior running back Malik Sherrod was named the Paul Hornung Award national player of the week, as announced by the award organization and the National College Football Awards Association on Tuesday morning.

Sherrod was one of six players from around the country selected to the Week 10 Honor Roll.

Sherrod touched the ball 26 times three different ways for 255 all-purpose yards and two scores in Fresno State's 37-30 home win over Boise State to win back the Milk Can for the first time since 2017. He carried the ball 21 times for a career-high 132 yards, including a 52-yard scoring run with 1:49 remaining that put the game out of reach.

The native of Oxnard, Calif. returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown as time expired in the first half, caught four passes for 28 yards and accounted for six first downs from scrimmage.

Sherrod is the third Bulldog to be honored by the Paul Hornung Award this season, joining WR Erik Brooks with a Week 1 honor roll nod and WR Jaelen Gill who was a preseason addition to the award's watch list.

The junior back is the second Bulldog this season to garner national honors, joining defensive back Carlton Johnson who was the Jim Thorpe Award and Bednarik Award national player of the week following his three interception game at Arizona State in Week 3.
