RENO, N.V. – The Fresno State baseball team is set for another Mountain West series this weekend against the Nevada Wolf Pack at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.

After a tough weekend in New Mexico, the Diamond 'Dogs sit at 22-22 on the season (11-33 MW) and are looking to bounce back against the Wolf Pack. Earlier this season, Fresno State won a series against Nevada in Fresno with two out of three wins.

Nevada owns a 17-25 overall record and is 7-13 in conference which puts the Wolf Pack in seventh place in the MW.

SUNDAY FUNDAY

Senior Trevor Garcia has found his groove as the Sunday starter after pitching a career-high seven innings last week against New Mexico.

Garcia tossed four strikeouts and only allowed one walk in the start.

He owns a 4.46 ERA this season with 39 total strikeouts and only 14 walks in 42.1 innings pitched.

STRIKEOUT KING

Junior pitcher Ixan Henderson has led the Mountain West in strikeouts all season long, currently with 79 over 66 innings pitched.

Henderson leads the 'Dogs with a 3.55 ERA with only 29 runs scored against him while only allowing 24 walks in 11 starts.

He has the fourth-best ERA (3.55) and third-best opposing average (.236) in the conference.

FRESHMAN AT THE TOP

Five-time Mountain West Freshman of the Week Murf Gray leads the 'Dogs in batting average, batting .302 on the season with 25 RBIs, six doubles and a triple in his time at Fresno State.

The starting third baseman is one of two baseball players to win Mountain West Weekly honors five weeks in a row, tied with Stephen Strasberg in 2008.

TOM OF ALL TRADES

Junior Tommy Hopfe has started 40 games this season with the 'Dogs.

Hopfe has served as the designated hitter, first baseman, catcher and pitcher so far in 2023.

On the mound, Hopfe has earned eight saves, making him second in the Mountain West and 15th in the nation.

In the field, Hopfe has a perfect fielding percentage with 107 putouts and 13 assists.

Hopfe hit .412 last week with seven hits that included three doubles and a home run. He crossed the plate three times and had nine RBIs against the Dons and Lobos.

At the plate, Hopfe is a clutch hitter, leading the team with eight home runs, 34 RBIs and 81 total bases this season.

WELKER'S WORLD

Senior shortstop Travis Welker is one of two Diamond Dogs to play in 43 total games this season.

He led the 'Dogs last week in batting average, hitting .417 with five hits in 12 total at bats and holds a .259 average on the season.

On the season, Welker has only been struck out nine times in 138 total at-bats, making him the toughest to strikeout in the Mountain West and 13th toughest to strikeout in the nation.

Welker owns a .971 fielding percentage in 2023 with 121 assists and 79 putouts.
