SAN FRANCISCO – The Fresno State baseball team defeated the San Francisco Dons 14-9 at Benedetti Diamond Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Diamond 'Dogs advance to 21-19 on the season and the Dons fall to 14-22.
NOTES:
Fresno State was led at the plate by Murf Gray who went 4-5 with two doubles and an RBI.
Aiden Cremarosa recorded his first career win in 1.2 innings on the mound for the 'Dogs.
Marco Pirruccello knocked his second home run of the season and Tommy Hopfe followed with his team-leading seventh home run.
This was the 'Dogs' highest scoring game of 2023 with 13 runs on the board and their second game this season with a nine-run inning.HOW IT HAPPENED:
The 'Dogs were the first on the board as they scored on a balk in the top of the first inning. The Dons replied with an RBI single to tie the game at one after the second.
The 'Dogs and the Dons each scored a pair of runs in the third inning with two-run homers to make it a 3-3 game.
The Bulldog offense exploded in the top of the fifth inning as the 'Dogs recorded their second nine-run inning of 2023 with seven hits including Tommy Hopfe's seventh home run of the year. Fresno State added another home run to the total in the top of the sixth with a solo shot to left center by Tyler Davis.
San Francisco chipped away at the 12-3 deficit it had found itself in and scored five runs in the bottom of the inning with two singles and a double. The Dons added another run in the next inning with a solo home run to right field.
With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, Marco Pirruccello walked and dished another run to lock in the 14-9 victory for Fresno State.
