SAN DIEGO – Following another solid day in the heptathlon, Fresno State's Kaja Bins moved up the standings and finished runner-up on Friday at the Aztec Invitational. The senior earned a new personal best in two of her final three events en route to moving up to seventh in the program's Top 10 in the heptathlon with 4,928 points.
Beginning the day in fourth, Bins landed a slight PR in the long jump at 5.56m/18-3 to finished third in the event. She made her move though in the javelin out throwing competitors above and around her by seven meters or more, registering a mark of 37.16m/121-11. As a result, Bins moved up two spots into second. The Bulldog ended the day with another career best in the 800 meters, clocking a time of 2:25.25, third-fastest in the event.
Bins narrowly finished behind of Iowa State's Sydney Willits as the Cyclone did just enough in the final event to end the competition three points ahead.
Kaitlynn Perez finished where she started the day. The Bulldog was eighth with a career best 4,607 points. Perez landed a personal best in the javelin at 31.03m/101-9.
In the decathlon, Garrett Ostrinski placed second with 6,630 points. Day 2 saw the junior earn a new personal best in the discus at 37.67m/123-7.
The final day of the Aztec Invitational begins at 9 a.m. tomorrow with the women's javelin.
