Jackson paces 'Dogs to 2-4-5 finish in weight throw on Day 2

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Day 2 of the Mountain West Indoor Championships was highlighted by Fresno State grabbing 17 points in the weight throw, led by sophomore Cierra Jackson's second-straight silver medal. The 2-4-5 showing in the event helped the Bulldogs move up to third in the team standings with 29.5 points heading into the final day.

Jackson never looked back from the No. 2 spot following an opening throw of 18.58mm/60-11. Moving into the finals, the Bulldog ripped a personal best toss of 19.82m/65-0. Jordyn Bryant placed fourth, landing her best mark of the competition (18.45m/60-6) on her first throw. Trinity Williams was right behind her in fifth with a personal best mark of 18.24m/59-10.

Also adding points to the Bulldogs' total was Kaitlynn Perez in the high jump. Clearing the first three heights on her first attempts, the junior missed on her first at 1.67m/5-5.75. She came back on the second attempt and cleared the new personal record that would put her into a tie for seventh.

Ceonna Pipion was the Bulldogs' lone qualifier on the track, earning a spot in tomorrow's 400 final. Finishing eighth overall, the junior won her heat, clocking a time of 55.49.

Day 3 will begin for the 'Dogs tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. PT with the triple jump.

Notes

Cierra Jackson's best throw of 19.82m/65-0 moved her up to No. 3 all-time at Fresno State, passing Meagan McKee.

The 17 points in the weight throw was the second-most in the event for Fresno State at a Mountain West championship meet. It was the most since 2017 when the group went 1-2 to score 18 points.

Ceonna Pipion qualified for a sprint final for the second straight indoor championship. Last year, the then-sophomore qualified for the finals of the 200 meters.

Kaitlynn Perez was the first Bulldog to score in the high jump at the championship meet since Varvara Klyuchnikova in 2019.
