BROKEN RECORD
Already having broken her personal best in the shot put twice in her first four attempts on Saturday at the WSU Open, Cierra Jackson went one step further, breaking the Fresno State school record on her fifth attempt with a toss of 16.74m/54-11.25. The mark surpassed Dot Jones' previous record of 16.34m/53-7.5 that had stood since 1986, the longest-standing indoor record at Fresno State.
Jackson was dominant in her first shot put win this year, bettering the personal record she entered the day with on her final four throws. That record was more than a meter-and-half less (15.13m) than Jackson threw on Saturday.
Jackson became just the second Fresno State athlete to surpass the 16-meter mark in the indoor shot put and fourth in the event regardless of season.
INSTANT IMPACT
After moving to Fresno State from San Diego State during the offseason, Jordyn Bryant has had an instant impact for the 'Dogs thus far. The junior has been one of the top throwers in the conference through the indoor season and has already found herself fourth on Fresno State's all-time list in the shot put, landing a mark of 15.44m/50-8 at the WSU Open.
THROWING DEEP
With another strong showing by the throws group last weekend at the WSU Open, the Bulldogs moved up in both the shot put and weight throw in the USTFCCCA's Event Squad rankings, led by Cierra Jackson and Jordyn Bryant who rank in the Top 5 in both events in the Mountain West.
The 'Dogs rank 10th in both the shot put and weight throw with average throws of 15.06m/49—5.25 in the shot and 18.45m/50-6.5.
PICKING UP STEAM
Two week ago in Albuquerque, Ceonna Pipion bettered her season mark in the 200 meters for the fourth consecutive meet while finishing ninth overall. Though the junior was just outside the program's Top 5 a week earlier at 24.33, she jumped to third all-time in the event at the Don Kirby Invitational, clocking a time 24.20 to move ahead of Breeauna Thompson's 24.22.
MULTIFACETED
Thursday's pentathlon at the championships will feature two of the program's top multis. In her first championship meet in 2022, Madison Hutton posted the second-best score in Fresno State's history with 3,771, a total she just missed earlier this year. Coming in at fifth all-time with 3,593 is Kaja Bins who missed the 2021 championship meet. Like Hutton, Bins was just shy of personal best total earlier this season in Spokane.

RETURNING SCORERS IN 2023
Fresno didn't lose much in the offseason. In fact, from its 2022 Mountain West Indoor Championships' team that finished fifth, just one scorer is gone. Cierra Jackson and Amelia DiPaola who both finished in the top six in the weight throw and shot put return. Madison Hutton is back for the pentathlon. Hutton along with Haley Abirached picked up points in the jumps. Ceonna Pipion returns in the sprints.
In total, Fresno State returned 33 of its 36 points.
Jackson scored a team-high 13 in her first indoor championship meet.
SITTING IN THE TOP 5 HEADING INTO 2023
Sophomores Madison Hutton and Cierra Jackson come into this season already owning spots in Fresno State's indoor record book. While Hutton is second in the pentathlon and fourth in the long jump, Jackson ranks fourth in the weight throw and fifth in the shot put. Joining Hutton in the pentathlon is Kaja Bins who ranks fifth. Haley Abirached also holds the program's fifth-best mark in the triple jump.
