'Dogs sit fifth after day one of MW Championships

HOUSTON - The Fresno State swimming and diving team got the 2023 Mountain West Championships underway on Wednesday sitting in fifth place after day one of action at the CRWC Natatorium.

Scoring 133 points on the day, the 'Dogs 800 free relay team of Athena Clayson, Julia Matney, Samarah Melia and Wiktoria Dabrowska set a new program record in the event clocking a time of 7:15.97.

The 200 Medley relay team of Clayson, Aliz Kalmar, Mackenzie Hutler, Eleonora Trentin also finished fourth in a season-best time of 1:40.22.

On the diving board, Silvia Alessio was the 'Dogs top finisher on the 1-Meter finishing ninth as the top placer in the consolation with a score of 300.80. Grace Ally and Jaden Fagundes also finished in the top 30 in the prelims on the event.

Day two gets underway on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. PT with the prelims of the 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free & 3-Meter Diving with finals set for 4 p.m. PT.
