ANAHEIM, Calif. - Despite holding a one-point halftime lead, the Fresno State men's basketball team dropped its Paycom Wooden Legacy opener to the Washington Huskies 62-57 on Wednesday night at Anaheim Arena.
Fresno State (1-4) was led by Isaih Moore, who produced is second double-double of the season finishing with 15 points and a season-high 13 rebounds against Washington (4-1).
Donavan Yap chipped in nine points with a trio of 'Dogs adding eight points apiece in Jemarl Baker, Anthony Holland and Eduardo Andre.
How It Happened
A back-and-forth first half saw the 'Dogs and Huskies trade the lead 12 times along with four ties.
With the Bulldogs jumping out to an 8-0 lead, a free throw from Destin Whitaker made it 11-5. The Huskies responded with a 7-0 run capped by a three-pointer from Keyon Menifield to take their first lead of the contest, 12-11, but the 'Dogs quickly responded with a dunk from Moore.
Continuing to trade the lead back and forth, the 'Dogs took a 23-20 lead on a dunk by Moore, but Washington evened it up with a three-pointer by Jamal Bey. Yap quickly answered back for the 'Dogs with a three-pointer himself and after a pair of field goals for the Huskies, a driving layup by Baker in the final seconds of the first half went in to give the Bulldogs a one-point lead heading to the locker room.
With the first three field goals of the second half going to the Huskies for a five-point lead, UW went on to extend its lead to as large as 14 at 53-39 with 9:52 to play in the second half.
Refusing to go away, the 'Dogs began to chip at the Huskies' lead closing it to six after a Baker three-pointer and another three-pointer, this time by Holland, cut UW's lead to 57-52 with 3:57 to play.
A three-point play by Leo Colimero with 37 seconds remaining trimmed the Huskies' lead to 59-55, but that was as close as the 'Dogs could get down the stretch falling 62-57.

Fresno State, who won the 2021 Venue Twin Southern California Challenge Surf Division, returned to Southern California during Feast Week for a multi-team event for the second straight season and third time in the last five years.
This is Fresno State's second appearance in the Wooden Legacy -- an ESPN Event -- and first since 2018, when the 'Dogs beat Northwestern on Thanksgiving Day and finished third in an eight-team bracket.
This was the fourth game in a six-game stretch of the Bulldogs exclusively playing KenPom Top 125 teams, who also all finished in the NET Top 150 at the end of last season.
This was the sixth all-time meeting between Fresno State and Washington, and first since 1993. Fresno State had won the previous three meetings, including a pair of two-point victories in the early 1990s.
