'Dogs drop opener at Nevada

RENO, Nev. - The Diamond 'Dogs brought the offense early on Thursday, but were unable to come back falling to Nevada, 13-10 in the series opener at Peccole Park.

Fresno State (25-28, 13-15 MW) got base hits from all nine starters with Buster Posey National Catcher of the Year semifinalist Zach Morgan leading the way with a career-high five hits.

The Stockton native smacked two home runs, added his 20th double, a pair of singles, scored three runs and drove in four RBIs.

Payton Allen had a three-hit game and Bobby Blandford tacked on his third home run of the year.

On the mound, Ixan Henderson went four innings allowing nine runs and suffered his fourth loss with Kyle Pruhsmeier and Jake Dixon and  combining to throw the final four innings.

How It Happened

The 'Dogs got the scoring started in the top of the first with base knocks from the first three Bulldogs.

A leadoff double from Ben Newton, his sixth of the season, was followed by an RBI single from Morgan. Ivan Luna added his 19th double of the season on an RBI base knock to left field and Tommy Hopfe kept the hot start going with an RBI single back up the middle to drive home Luna.

The Wolf Pack responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run single to cut the 'Dogs lead to one.

A three-run third for the Bulldogs pushed their lead to 6-2 getting RBI base knocks from Allen, Travis Welker and Nikoh Mitchell and . The Wolf Pack quickly responded with a two-run home run in the bottom of the frame, but a solo home run by Morgan in the fourth gave the 'Dogs a 7-4 lead.

After keeping Nevada to only four runs through the first four innings, the Wolf Pack exploded for five runs in the fifth to charge back for a 9-7 lead picking up a two-run home run along with an RBI single, double and triple.

A two-run home run by Nevada in the sixth extended their lead to 11-7 and the Wolf Pack threatened for more runs loading the bases, but Dixon was able to get a groundout to keep the damage to a pair.

The Wolf Pack added a run in the seventh with Morgan cutting Nevada's lead back down to 12-9 with his second homer of the night, a two-run shot to left in the eighth.

Nevada added its fourth and final home run and Blandford's solo shot to center in the ninth completed the scoring,
