COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West is celebrating its 25th Season of excellence on and off the field of play. During each Mountain West Championship in 2023-24, the Conference will recognize a 25th Season Team.
Among the 25 athletes selected for this honor is former men's golfer Trevor Clayton.
The Fresno native spent two seasons at Fresno State (2015-16, 2016-17) after transferring from Cal State Stanislaus. During his first season as a Bulldog, he won the 2016 Mountain West Men's Golf Individual Championship and advanced to the NCAA Regionals in Albuquerque where he placed 37th at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional (75-77-79=231). Clayton was named to the 2016 All-MW team after leading the team with a 72.42 scoring average through 12 tournaments. Clayton ended the 2016 season with the eighth-best single-season par 3 scoring average (3.1241) by a Bulldog since the 1993-94 season.
In 2016-17, Clayton led the team with a 72.53 scoring average (1.25 vs. par) while playing in all 11 tournaments, recording four Top 10 finishes. He led the team in several statistical categories: eagles (7), par-5 average (4.69), par-4 average (4.15), par-3 average (3.18) and least bogeys per round (3.18). His single-season seven eagles rank as the fourth-most in team history since the 1993-94 season. Following the 2016-17 season, owned the fifth-best career average in team history of those playing in at least 45 rounds since the 1993-94 season with a 72.47 career average (68 rounds) in his two seasons at Fresno State.
