President Trump has paid his respects to former President George H.W. Bush as Bush lies in state at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump bowed their heads in silence for a few moments. Trump then gave Bush a short salute, and they exited.
Some of the nation's most powerful leaders are commending the legacy of the late President George H.W. Bush. During a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda today, Vice President Mike Pence said Bush never failed to answer the call of service to his country. He said the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War happened under Bush. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called Bush a World War Two war hero, a humble servant and a principled leader. House Speaker Paul Ryan said Bush was a great man and a great patriot. A state funeral is being held for Bush at Washington's National Cathedral on Wednesday.
