Roseville Man Arrested In Murder Case That Landed Innocent Man In Prison

It's a Roseville man who is now being held in connection to a 1985 El Dorado Hills murder. El Dorado County Sheriff deputies arrested Michael Green earlier this week outside his home across from Maidu Park and booked him into jail. The arrest coming just ahead of Thursday's joint announcement by El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson and Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert that Rick Davis, who had spent 14 years in prison for the murder, was going to be released thanks to results from new DNA testing of evidence and genealogical cross referencing that proved his innocence.

Green was only 17-years-old when Jane Hylton was stabbed to death. He had been living as a free man, while Ricky Davis was wrongfully prosecuted and convicted of the murder in 2005.

Davis' conviction largely hinged on a false confession by Davis' former girlfriend, Connie Dahl. Pierson says Davis was proven innocent using the same DNA technique which helped catch the Golden State Killer.

Pierson says after working with the Northern California Innocence Project on this case, he has gone on to do more research into false confessions and the interrogation techniques used to elicit them.
