Raw Emotion Displayed During First Anniversary Of The Camp Fire In Paradise

Today is the one year mark since the Camp Fire roared through Paradise, killing 85 people and destroying over 18,000 homes and businesses. Pre-fire 27 thousand people lived in the community nestled between steep canyons, eight miles east of Chico. Now, there are fewer than 3,000 residents, most of whom are living in RV’s on their burned properties.

Rebuilding has begun for some, but many have resettled in other communities, saying it’s too painful to come back to a town that will never be the same again.

Some of that emotion came to the surface today, as the Town held a commemoration at 11:08, asking everyone to observe a moment of silence—one second for every life lost one year ago.
