Sen. Kamala Harris wants to extend the school day by 3 hours

California Senator and presidential hopeful Kamala Harris has introduced a bill that would extend the school day to 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Harris says that most schools end at 3pm and 70% of parents are still working, and have to find childcare between 3pm and 6pm.

By extending the school day to 10 hours, the time would be used for after school programs and activities.

The bill would also give schools that serve mostly low-income families, grant money and funds for summer programming.
