Pelosi Sidesteps Impeachment Questions, Insists Democrats Are On Same Page

In a Capitol briefing on Thursday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi sidestepped reporter questions about impeachment proceedings and insisted that House committees will continue aggressively investigating President Trump and his administration. The California Democrat again accused the president of obstructing House probes and said her party will continue taking the White House to court when necessary, but she later refused to answer any more questions about impeachment.

"I stand by what we have been doing all along, I support what is happening in the House Judiciary Committee because that enables them to do their process of interrogation in their investigation," said Pelosi.

She also insisted that reporters are responsible for any public confusion over what she and other Democrats are trying to accomplish with the investigations. More than half the Democrats in the House want to move forward with impeachment.

When pressed by reporters about apparent mixed messages to Americans regarding impeachment, Pelosi became defensive. "Impeachment is a very divisive measure, but if we have to go there we'll have to go there."

Speaker Pelosi has previously argued that the best way to get Trump out of office is to win the 2020 election. Earlier on Thursday, the House Judiciary Committee approved guidelines for possible impeachment proceedings.
