Governor Jerry Brown Signs Wildfire Safety Bill

California will be spending another billion-dollars to help prevent wildfires.

Governor Brown signed a bill today that allocates a billion-dollars over five-years to clear dry brush and other fuels from forests and provide fire prevention grants to landowners and communities.

It also gives property owners more leeway in cutting down smaller trees and installing fire access roads.

The most controversial part of the bill gives utilities greater ability to pass along fire-related costs to consumers as long as they weren't proven negligent, but it requires them to detail their fire prevention plans and open their financial books to scrutiny.
