Trumps Will Make Charitable Donation In Lieu Of Royal Wedding Gift

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania will make a "contribution to one of the seven charities the royal couple has designated in lieu of gifts" according to White House deputy press secretary Lindsay Walters. She did not say which charity would receive the Trumps' donation.

Last month, Kensington Palace announced that Prince Harry and his fiancee Meghan Markle requested "that anyone who might wish to mark the occasion considers making a donation to charity, rather than sending a wedding gift."

The seven charities are "focused on homelessness, children living with HIV, women’s empowerment, the children of fallen military veterans, marine conservation, and wilderness preservation."

The Trumps were not invited to the wedding. A spokesperson for Kensington Palace explained that "an official list of political leaders — both UK and international — is not required for Prince Harry and Ms. Markle's wedding." NBC News correspondent Keir Simmons reported that the decision not to invite any political leaders to the wedding came directly from Prince Harry.

“People in Harry’s circle tell me he is absolutely in charge of everything, that he decides,” Simmons said. “That, for example, is why there are no politicians, he says so, no politicians here, no President Trump here, no British prime minister here.”

The royal couple is set to tie the knot on Saturday, May, 19th.
