FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team clinched the series victory over conference-leading New Mexico with an 11-3 win on Saturday at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
Fresno State is now 14-16 overall and leads the Mountain West with a 7-4 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Thirdbaseman Murf Gray drove in the first four runs for the Bulldogs. Gray hit a double down the left field line in the first inning, sending leadoff hitter Owen Faust, who had doubled to start the inning, across the plate. With two outs in the second, Gray crushed a home run to the scoreboard in left field to plate Eddie Saldivar and Cayden Munster, giving the 'Dogs an early 4-0 advantage.
The Lobos got on the board in the fourth with a solo home run to right field.
Fresno State had a big seventh inning, led off by Gray's second home run of the game, a solo shot to left center. The 'Dogs scored two more from RBI hits from Bobby Blandford and Cayden Munster, making it a 7-3 game.
New Mexico started a rally in the top of the eighth and loaded the bases with the first three batters of the inning. An RBI double down the left line plated two runs for the Lobos.
The Bulldogs scored four insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Fresno State loaded the bases, and BJ Rodriguez and Sky Collins had back-to-back hits to score the game's final four runs.
NOTES
Starting pitcher AIdan Cremarosa struck out six batters in 7.0 innings.
Over 50 alumni from the Bob Bennett era were recognized in honor of the legendary former head coach.
Murf Gray hit a pair of home runs, making him the third player to have a multi-home run game for the 'Dogs this season.
