FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team completed a sweep over New Mexico on Sunday with a 13-7 victory on Sunday.
With the win, the Diamond 'Dogs advance to 15-16 overall and 8-4 to lead the Mountain West.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a one-two-three inning for the Lobos to open the game, the Bulldogs were first on the board in the bottom of the frame. Fresno State loaded the bases, and Eddie Saldivar scored on a ball that got past the catcher.
The Lobos had an explosive second inning, scoring six runs on seven hits to give them their first lead of the series.
Fresno State battled back in the bottom half of the inning. Justin Stransky sparked the offensive run with an RBI fielder's choice that scored Lee Trevino. Murf Gray followed with a base-clearing double to center field. The 'Dogs tacked on another run to close the four-run frame, scoring on a wild pitch.
The Diamond 'Dogs continued their scoring streak with a three-run third inning. Sky Collins led off the inning with his third career home run. Eddie Saldivar walked and was scored by a Stransky double down the left field line. A sacrifice fly from Griffen Sotomayor capped the inning and sent Stransky home.
Fresno State's bats stayed loud in the fourth inning as the 'Dogs recorded five straight hits to score five runs, highlighted by Stransky's second double of the game.
New Mexico scored a final run in the top of the seventh, an RBI ground out, but were not able to overcome the deficit. Fresno State swept the series with a 13-7 victory.
NOTES
This is Fresno State's first sweep of 2025.
Sky Collins hit his third home run of the season.
Fresno State sits at the top of the Mountain West standings with a 8-4 record.
