'Dogs drop heartbreaker to Spartans

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team dropped a heartbreaker, 2-1, to San Jose State on Saturday at Excite Ballpark.

Fresno State drops to 10-15 (4-4 MW) and San Jose State advances to 17-10 (5-3 MW).

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs and Spartans were in a stalemate for the first seven innings of play. Starting pitcher Aidan Cremarosa held the Spartans to five straight three-up, three-down innings, allowing only one hit in that time.

Fresno State broke through in the top of the eighth inning. The top of the order, Eddie Saldivar, Justin Stransky and Murf Gray, hit consecutive singles, scoring a run for the Bulldogs.

The Spartans responded with a pair of singles that scored the go-ahead run for San Jose State in the bottom of the inning.

Fresno State went down in order in the top of the ninth, sealing the 2-1 loss for the Bulldogs.

NOTES

Aidan Cremarosa pitched a career-high 7.0 innings and struck out seven batters.

Fresno State allowed only six hits, the third least amount of hits in a game this season.

The Bulldogs did not allow an extra base hit.
