'Dogs unable to complete comeback against TCU

FORT WORTH, TX – The Diamond 'Dogs opened their three-game series against the Horned Frogs of TCU with a 9-4 loss on Friday night.

The Bulldogs' record drops to 5-8 with the loss while the Frogs advance to 10-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fresno State's starting pitcher, Jack Anker, struggled early, allowing five runs in the first inning, including a home run by TCU's leadoff hitter. TCU continued their offensive surge in the second inning, tacking on three more runs to build an 8-0 lead.

Reliever Drew Townson entered the game in the sixth inning, pitching three scoreless innings and keeping the Frogs off the scoreboard.

Lee Trevino recorded the Bulldogs' first RBI of the game, reaching first on a throwing error by the TCU third baseman, scoring Justin Stransky in the seventh. Eddie Saldivar drove in two more runs with a bases-loaded double, cutting the deficit to 9-3. Cayden Munster delivered a spark for the Bulldogs in the eighth with a solo home run.

Fresno State's late efforts were not enough to overcome TCU's early lead. The Bulldogs fell 9-4, dropping their record to 5-8 on the season.

NOTES

Fresno State is now 3-1 against ranked opponents in 2025.

Cayden Munster hit his second home run of 2025, becoming the second Bulldog to have more than one home run this season.

Fresno State used only two pitchers in the series opener in comparison to five pitchers used by TCU.
