What to know
Fresno State is coached by first year head coach Matt Entz.
The Bulldogs see their fourth head coach since 2020.
Entz joins the Fresno State family from USC where he was the linebackers coach in 2024. Before that, he was a national championship head coach at North Dakota State.
With the new head coach brought a new staff, but not every coach is new to the staff.
Entz retained three full-time coaches from 2024 in special teams coordinator John Baxter, cornerbacks coach J.D. Williams and running backs coach Aaron Prier. Entz also hired 2024 graduate assistant DelVon Hardaway to coach the receivers.
Fresno State hired its new offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator, both are very accomplished coaches on their sides of the ball. Josh Davis is the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach while Nick Benedetto is the defensive coordinator and safeties coach.
Fresno State added 21 mid-year players to the roster ahead of spring football, including 20 with collegiate experience and one true freshman who joined as an early enrollee from Buchanan High School.
With the additions, came the departures. The Bulldogs lost a handful of players to the transfer portal, most of which were significant impact players for the 'Dogs in 2024. In that group were all-conference players in quarterback Mikey Keene (Michigan), and wide receivers Jalen Moss (Arizona State) and Raylen Sharpe (Arkansas).
The Bulldogs graduated starters Devo Bridges (DE), Malachi Langley (LB), Tuasivi Nomura (LB), Dean Clark (S), Mac Dalena (WR), Cam Lockridge (CB) and Mose Vavao (OL) who were also all-conference selections a season ago.
Fresno State returns just one of 11 2024 All-Mountain West selections in cornerback Al'zillion Hamilton.
Hamilton returns as the Bulldogs' most experienced player when it comes to games played. He has played in 42 career games at Fresno State.
Fresno State has 23 Valley natives on its 2025 Spring Football roster.
Fresno State looks ahead to its final season of football in the Mountain West, as the school will change conferences to the Pac-12 in 2026. Fresno State will head to the Pac-12 with Mountain West members Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State and Utah State.
Having been a member of the Mountain West since 2012, Fresno State is 61-40 in MW games and has won four championship titles.
Fresno State opens the 2025 season with a Week 0 trip to Kansas. It is Fresno State's first Week 0 game since 2021, and first matchup against an active Big 12 team since 2007.
