FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State Baseball team is traveling to UC Santa Barbara for a rematch against the Gauchos, following their matchup in the 2024 Santa Barbara Regional this past May.
Following the weekend series with the Gauchos, the Bulldogs will host Cal Poly on Tuesday night at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
CALLING ALL THE MUNSTERS
Fresno State baseball's Cayden Munster has been named Mountain West Freshman of the Week after a standout performance against Cal State Fullerton, the conference announced on Monday.
This marks Munster's first MW honor and the team's second consecutive week with an honor earned.
Munster served as the starting first baseman for the Bulldogs against Cal State Fullerton this week, going 4-for-11 at the plate with two RBIs.
He averaged .364 at the plate with a .500 on-base percentage and a .364 slugging percentage.
In the field, he recorded 22 putouts with 0 errors.
LOOKING FOR REDEMPTION
The last time the Bulldogs were at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium, their season concluded at the Santa Barbara Regional in 2024.
Riding the high of their Mountain West Championship title just a week earlier, the Bulldogs entered the regional as a number four seed holding a 33-27 overall record.
Fresno State battled the Gauchos in its first game of the regional, and ultimately fell 9-6.
The Diamond 'Dogs' season concluded the next day after a 7-5 loss to the University of San Diego.
MR. 805
Atascadero native and Diamond 'Dog alum Ryan Overland returns for his third season as the skipper for Fresno State.
In his first season since removing the interim tag, Overland led the Bulldogs to their first conference championship and NCAA Regional appearance since 2019.
Fresno State had a 33-29 record (16-14 MW) to land the fourth seed in the Mountain West Championship in San Diego, Calif.
The Bulldogs dropped the opening game of the tournament and battled through four straight elimination games to snap the MW Championship and head to the Santa Barbara Regional.
The Diamond 'Dogs went 30-27 (16-14 MW) in Overland's interim season, earning a spot in the 2023 Mountain West Championship hosted at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
Before being appointed interim head coach, Overland had served as the pitching coach for the Diamond 'Dogs for the past five years.
Overland has a long-running history at Fresno State as he was a catcher on the 2008 National Championship team.
In his career as a Bulldog student-athlete, he played in over 180 games and won three WAC Championships along with the 2008 National Championship.
