'Dogs dominate with 12-run first inning, defeat Titans 13-7

FRESNO, Calif. – The Diamond 'Dogs closed out their seven-game opening homestand with a 13-7 win over Cal State Fullerton.

The series win advances Fresno State to 4-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Diamond 'Dogs wasted no time in asserting their dominance, erupting for 12 runs in the bottom of the first. Sky Collins set the tone with a leadoff double, and Bobby Blandford continued the momentum with a two-run double. Griffen Sotomayor drove in two more with a single. State had sent 17 batters to the plate, seizing a commanding 12-2 lead.

The Titans showed some life in the top of the fourth with a solo home run to center field, cutting the deficit to 12-3.

Fresno State extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Cam Schneider singled and came around to score on a groundout by Sky Collins, making it 13-3.

Cal State Fullerton attempted a rally in the seventh inning with a three-run home run and a bases-loaded walk, cutting the Bulldogs' lead to 13-7.

JT Guerrero retired the side in order in the top of the ninth to secure the 13-7 victory.

NOTES

The Red Wave bested their attendance for the third straight game with 2,591 fans at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

The Bulldogs scored in the first frame in six out of the first seven games of the season.

Cam Schneider went 4-for-5 on the day, his career-best.

Fresno State scored 12 runs in the first inning, just one run shy of a program record.

Fresno State is heading to Saint Mary's on Tuesday for its first road game of the season. First pitch is scheduled at 2:05 p.m. PT.
