FRESNO, Calif. - Former Fresno State football player Nikko Remigio makes his return to the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend. Remigio was a part of the Chiefs' franchise in last year's Super Bowl winning season, but on the injured reserve. This season, he is a part of the active roster.
Remigio is the first former Bulldog on an active roster in the Super Bowl since Ben Jacobs (LB) with the Carolina Panthers in 2016.
Remigio is one of two former Mountain West athletes playing in the Super Bowl this weekend. The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will kick off on Sunday, February 9 at 3:30 p.m. PT.
This season, Remigio has primarily been a kick returner for the Chiefs. In just five games this season, he has 11 kickoff returns for 295 yards and 11 punt returns for 104 yards. He had a career-long 41 yard punt return against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game.
Remigio was a second team All-Mountain West wide receiver and punt returner after just one season at Fresno State. Remigio totaled 1,633 all-purpose yards. As a receiver, Remigio was second on the team with 74 receptions for 852 yards, scoring six touchdowns. He was Fresno State's top returner since 2013, showcasing his best returns in the punt returns totaling 13 punt returns for a combined 259 yards and two touchdowns. Remigio became the first Bulldog to return a punt for a touchdown since 2013. Remigio led the Mountain West in punt return touchdowns and punt return yards. He also led the nation in punt return touchdowns. Remigio is the only Bulldog to earn two positional all-conference honors by the MW league office.
Remigio helped Fresno State to make history as he was a major key in the Bulldogs' 2022 Mountain West championship season. Fresno State became the first team in FBS history to begin a season 1-4 and finish with 10 wins. The Bulldogs closed the season with nine-straight wins that year, capped by a dominant win over Washington State in the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl.
