'Dogs grab three event wins in second day of mid-season invites

ST.GEORGE, Utah- Fresno State swim and dive grabbed three event wins to close out the second day of the mid-season invites at the Utah Tech Trailblazer Invite at the HPC Pool and in Flagstaff for the NAU Lumberjack Invite at Wall Aquatic Center. Bulldogs' finished the second day in second place with 435 points just behind UC San Diego with 562.5 points.

Fresno State seized two event wins at the Trailblazer invite from senior Wiktoria Dabrowska and freshman Sienna Cheng-Lucey. In Arizona, Grace Ally finished at the top of the podium in the platform and added on an NCAA Zones qualifying standard.

How it happened

In Flagstaff, Grace Ally put on a show. In prelims and quarterfinals Ally dove right to the top grabbing the top seed going into the platform finals. Ally kept the top place close for the event win, with a score of 492.80. Ally's score is a new career best in the discipline and an NCAA Zone Qualifying Standard in a five dive list.

In St. George, Bulldogs saw another high turn out for finals. With a team high of seven moving on to finals in the 400 IM. The championship final consisted of Sera Hanagan, Aliz & Laura Kalmar and Korrie Tengam, Madison Caserio and Katie Ueda in the consolation final, adding 55 points for the Bulldogs.

Sienna Cheng-Lucey and Wiktoria Dabrowska set themselves up for plenty of success after securing the second seed into finals for 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle, respectively. Dabrowska came through with the event win in the 200 free with over a second to spare, 1:49.96. Cheng-Lucey out touched her opponent by eight one hundredths of a second to grab the event title in the 100 backstroke, 54.40.

Bulldogs continued to hang on the podium. Jenna Pulkkinen pulled in for a third place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.99. Fresno State capped both 200 medley and 800 free relay races in fourth place.

Up Next: The action continues for the final day of the invitationals. Saturday's preliminary session in St. George will begin at 10 a.m. MT with events 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 1650 freestyle. Divers are set to start at 10 a.m. MT for the 1-meter springboard.
