LARAMIE, Wyo. – A career-day from Ciara Wilson was not enough for Fresno State in its first Mountain West road match of the season, falling to Wyoming 4-3 on Thursday afternoon at Madrid Sports Complex. The Bulldogs owned the opening 20 minutes before the Cowgirls scored four unanswered.
Wilson had a hand in all three goals for the Bulldogs, finding the back of the net twice, and assisting on the other.
HOW IT HAPPENED
While Wyoming had the first two shot attempts of the match, Fresno State found the back of the net on its first two. Ciara Wilson struck on a tap-in in the 18th minute off a centering pass from Kaelyn Miller.
Just 30 seconds later, Wilson crossed a ball to Lizbeth De Loera just outside the top of the box. The senior ripped a shot off the underside of the crossbar that bounced over the line and back out. After it went to video replay, the goal stood to give the 'Dogs a 2-0 advantage.
It was short-lived though as the Cowgirls responded just over two minutes later. That goal started a stretch of four unanswered during the next 45 minutes.
Fresno State continued to fight during the last half hour. With the match winding down, the Bulldogs earned a penalty kick in the 85th minute on a handball. Wilson calmly converted to her left.
