Miller propels 'Dogs to 1-0 win in Corvallis

CORVALLIS, Ore. – On the heels of Thursday morning's announcement that Fresno State would be joining the Pac-12 in 2026, the Bulldog women's soccer team got the school's first crack at a future conference mate in Oregon State. Behind a goal in the 58th minute from Kaelyn Miller, the 'Dogs earned their first-ever win over the Beavers, 1-0, at Paul Lorenz Field.

Making her first career start in goal for the Bulldogs, Ashton Conley earned a shutout, totaling three saves, including one in the final seconds to preserve the win.

Fresno State held a decided shot advantage at 17-7 and allowed the Beavers to register just two during the final 67 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fresno State came out peppering Oregon State but the Beavers had the game's first big opportunity on goal. Lining up a deep free kick Katie Godden forced Ashton Conley to lay out to her left to knock away an attempt heading for the top corner.

Seven minutes later, a ball knocked down off a corner fell to Sabrina Welch. The left back struck a deflected ball toward the right corner of the goal but Maya Sanchez got down for the stop for the Beavers. Then it was Kaelyn Miller right after forcing a save out of Sanchez.

Scoreless at the half, it was the tandem of Ciara Wilson and Miller that broke the deadlock. In the 58th minute, Wilson beat her defender on the right side in the box. Getting a little space, the junior hit a quick centering ball to Miller just inside the 6-yard box. The senior went first touch and directed the ball toward the left side of the net away from Sanchez.

During the next 20 minutes, the 'Dogs were searching for a second, piling up six shots but saw two saved and another four blocked. Then in the 82nd minute, Laura Mas pounced on a loose ball that dropped inside the six, but her attempt was stopped on the line by a Beaver defender.

In the final seconds, Oregon State had one last attempt on a counter. A clear look for Carly Carraher just inside the 18, the Beaver attacker went far post but Conley laid out, pushing the ball away with two seconds on the clock.
