Buffs Classic begins with loss in straight sets

BOULDER, Colo. – The Fresno State Volleyball team opened the Buffs Classic in Boulder, Colorado with a loss in straight sets to the Washington Huskies on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Washington quickly took control of the first set, jumping to an early lead. Fresno State's offense struggled, hitting only -.061 for the set, with multiple attack errors that allowed Washington to extend their advantage. Despite some resistance from Fresno State, Washington maintained a side-out percentage of 66% and closed the set comfortably at 25-14.

In the second set, Fresno State managed to improve their attack but still couldn't match Washington's pace. Washington's aggressive serving put additional pressure on Fresno State's reception, allowing Washington to take the set 25-15.

The third set saw Fresno State showing initial resistance, but Washington's dominance at the net and overall consistency overpowered the 'Dogs. Fresno State's attack percentage improved slightly to .088, but it was not enough to overcome Washington's offense and defensive plays. Washington's hitting efficiency remained high, and they executed key plays at crucial moments, ultimately winning the set 25-13 and securing the match 3-0.

NOTES:

This is Fresno State's first loss of the season in straight sets, setting its record at 2-2.
