Four Diamond 'Dogs earn All-MW Honors

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Four Diamond 'Dogs were selected to receive All-Mountain West honors following the conclusion of the regular season, the conference announced on Thursday prior to the start of the MW Championship.

Tommy Hopfe and Grady Morgan were named All-Mountain West First Team. All-Mountain West Second Team selections for Fresno State include Ben Newton and Eddie Saldivar.

TOMMY HOPFE – ALL-MW FIRST TEAM

Utility man Tommy Hopfe was an integral member of the Bulldog squad in his final year, finishing the regular season with a .373 average in conference play.

In 2024 he had 44 hits, 12 doubles, a pair of triples, three homers and 27 RBIs against conference opponents.

Hopfe was primarily the first baseman for the 'Dogs in 2024 but also ventured out to left field and the mound.

As a pitcher, Hopfe led the conference with eight saves, three of which were in MW games. In 6.2 innings over 7 appearances, Hopfe struck out 12 MW batters.

GRADY MORGAN – ALL-MW FIRST TEAM

Grady Morgan had an electric senior season with the Bulldogs, starting in all 30 MW contests in 2024.

He had a .345 average with a .612 slugging percentage and a .430 on-base percentage.

Morgan crushed seven home runs against MW pitchers, 10 doubles and 40 hits overall.

He closed out the season with a perfect fielding percentage, 66 putouts and an assist.

Morgan scored 25 runs on his own and drove in 33 RBIs.

BEN NEWTON – ALL-MW SECOND TEAM

Senior Ben Newton ruled the infield as the starting shortstop in all 30 MW contests this season.

King of the double, Newton hit 15 two-baggers against conference opponents and 24 overall this season to lead the MW.

In addition, he had 32 hits, a triple, two home runs and 21 RBIs.

In MW play, Newton had a .305 batting average, a .525 slugging percentage and a .431 on-base percentage.

In the infield, he had 43 putouts and a team-leading 64 assists.

EDDIE SALDIVAR – ALL-MW SECOND TEAM

New kid on the block Eddie Saldivar made an immediate impact for the Diamond 'Dogs after transferring into the program this season.

Saldivar owned a .344 in conference play with 42 hits, 12 doubles, two triples and four home runs against MW opponents.

He also crossed the plate 31 times and drove in 17 RBIs.

As the starting second baseman, Saldivar had 45 putouts and 62 assists for a .964 fielding percentage.
