Series opener results in 3-1 loss for Fresno State

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Fresno State baseball team dropped the first game of the final regular season 3-1 to the Air Force Falcons on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After two scoreless innings, the Falcons were the first on the board scoring two on an RBI double to left center.

Tyler Davis got the Bulldogs on the board in the top of the seventh with a solo home run, his sixth of the season.

With runners on first and third with one out, the Falcons attempted a safety squeeze, but Tommy Hopfe was able to collect the bunted ball and flip it to catcher Tyler Davis to get the out at home. However, after further review, the umpires called for obstruction at the plate. The original call was reversed, resulting in a run for Air Force.

Ben Newton led off the eighth inning with his 23rd double of the season and pinch hitter Bobby Blandford was hit by a pitch to get two runners on with only one out. Back-to-back Bulldog strikeouts concluded the game with a final score of 3-1 in the Falcons' favor.

NOTES

Tyler Davis scored the only run of the day for the Bulldogs with a solo home run in the seventh.

The Bulldogs hit three doubles, two of which were with two outs.
