High-scoring affair ends in loss for Diamond 'Dogs

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team dropped the series finale to UNLV in a high-scoring affair at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium on Senior Day.

The 16-10 loss puts the Bulldogs at 16-11 in conference play, tied for first place in the MW standings.

Fresno State honored 12 Bulldog seniors in a pregame ceremony: Jake Dixon, Noah BealMichael McKernan, Bryce Armstrong, Zach Statzer, Jaykob Acosta, Cooper Bergman, Ben Newton, Marco Pirruccello, Grady Morgan, Tyler Davis and Tommy Hopfe.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Two home runs put the Rebels on the board early in the first. Eddie Saldivar led off the bottom of the inning with a home run to right field, making it a 4-1 game.

UNLV added three more runs in the top of the second with a two-run homer and an RBI double.

Fresno State had a big third inning, loading the bases with only one hit and driving in a pair of runs with two hit batsmen. Murf Gray cleared the bases with an RBI double that got the 'Dogs within a run.

The Rebels surged ahead in the fourth with four runs on four hits, but the Bulldogs stayed close behind as Tommy Hopfe

led off the inning with a double and was plated by Grady Morgan. Murf Gray followed with the Diamond 'Dogs' second home run of the game.

Two more home solo home runs for the Rebels continued to grow their lead in the sixth and Tyler Davis kept the Bulldogs alive with a solo home run of his own to lead off the second half of the inning.

The Rebels continued to push forward in the eighth with another home run and an RBI double to score three more runs.

Grady Morgan tried to give Fresno State some momentum in the ninth with a solo home run, but the Bulldogs came up short, closing out the series finale with a 16-10 loss to UNLV.

NOTES

Fresno State ended an 11-game winning streak and three-series sweep streak over the Rebels with today's loss.

The Bulldogs hit four home runs today for the fourth time this season.

Murf Gray hit a career-high four hits against UNLV with a double and a home run.
