FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team fell 4-6 to the San Jose State Spartans in a pitchers' dual at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans made a statement early in the game, hitting a pair of three-run homers in the first.
Jaykob Acosta stepped in relief for the Bulldogs, pitching 5.1 scoreless innings.
Tyler Davis put an end to the Bulldogs' scoring drought with a grand slam crushed to centerfield.
Zach Statzer held the Spartans scoreless, coming in to relieve in the seventh, striking out six batters.
The Bulldog offense, however, ran out of innings and fell 4-6 to the Spartans.
NOTES
Tyler Davis hit the Bulldogs' 33rd home run of the season, his second, driving in all four runs for the Bulldogs.
Jaykob Acosta pitched for 5.1 scoreless innings, the longest of his Bulldog career with a season-high eight strikeouts.
Zach Statzer also had an impressive showing, striking out six out of seven batters without allowing a hit.
This is the only game of the season where the Bulldogs scored in only one inning and only allowed the opponent to score in one inning.
