ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Fresno State baseball team extended their conference win streak to nine games, the longest conference streak since 2008, with a 10-5 win over New Mexico on Friday night at Santa Ana Star Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a quick first inning, Fresno State got on the board with a double from Ben Newton followed by a triple from Bobby Blandford to drive him home.
Eddie Saldivar and Rocco Peppi hit back-to-back no-doubter home runs in the top of the third.
The Lobos scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the frame, hitting a pair of doubles to drive in a run. A Lobo triple and single gave the Lobos a lead through three with a score of 4-3.
A ground-run double from Tyler Davis tied up the game at four in the top of the fourth, scoring Ben Newton. The Bulldogs were put back in front as Michael McKernan singled to score Bobby Blandford and an RBI from Rocco Peppi scored Davis.
Fresno State extended its lead in the top of the fifth to 8-4 with an RBI single from Bobby Blandford and a sacrifice fly from Tyler Davis.
Consecutive doubles from Tommy Hopfe and Grady Morgan added a pair of runs for the Bulldogs to give them a six-run lead in the sixth.
New Mexico attempted a late rally with a last-second RBI single but were not able to finish and fell 10-5 to the Bulldogs.
NOTES
The Bulldogs are on a nine-game conference win streak, the longest since joining the conference in 2013.
The last time Fresno State won nine straight conference games was in 2008.
Rocco Peppi's team-leading ninth home run reached 495 feet.
