Jackson breaks 38-year old shot put record

SAN DIEGO – Fresno State's Cierra Jackson capped off her weekend at the Triton Invitational by breaking the program's 38-year old record in shot put. The junior now owns both the school's indoor and outdoor records in the event.

On her third attempt of the competition, Jackson landed a mark of 17.39m/57-0.75, exactly one meter further than her previous best. The throw smashed Dot Jones' record of 16.53m/54-2.75 which was set in 1986.

The toss ranks No. 1 in the Mountain West this season.

Jackson finished third in the event behind the No. 1- and No. 7-ranked shot putters in the country. Jordyn Bryant took sixth with a mark of 15.99m/52-5.5. Amelia DiPaola finished eighth at 15.02m/49-3.5, a mark that moved her to No. 10 on Fresno State's all-time list.
