LAS VEGAS – The Fresno State baseball team snagged the series win over UNLV with a 14-9 victory over the Rebels at Earl E. Wilson Stadium on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Eddie Saldivar led off with a standup double and Rocco Peppi's fifth home run of the season drove him in to score for the first pair of runs in the game.
The Hustlin' Rebels scored a single run on a bases-loaded ground out in the bottom of the first inning.
The Diamond 'Dogs returned with a vengeance in the top of the second with an RBI single from Michael McKernan and consecutive RBI singles from Rocco Peppi and Tommy Hopfe. Ben Newton drove in three more runs to close out the inning with his first home run of the season.
UNLV made it a 9-3 game with a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the inning.
The 'Dogs and Rebs each scored one in the third from sacrifice flies, and UNLV added an additional run from an RBI single in the fourth.
Murf Gray crushed a two-run homer, bringing Bobby Blandford across the dish with him in the top of the fifth inning.
After the first scoreless inning of the game, Fresno State and UNLV each scored a run; an RBI from Michael McKernan and a solo home run for the Rebels.
Bobby "Barrels" Blandford hit an insurance homer over the right-field wall in the top of the ninth.
The Rebels attempted a late rally in the final inning with a two-run home run and a runner scoring on a wild pitch but came up short giving Fresno State a 14-9 series win.
NOTES
With the win tonight, the Bulldogs have now won 10 straight series, dating back to last season.
The Bulldogs extend their win streak over the Rebels to eight straight games.
Every Bulldog in the lineup scored at least once for the second time this season.
Fresno State hit four home runs in back-to-back games.
