Diamond 'Dogs even series with 6-1 win

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team defeated the Air Force Falcons by a score of 6-1 in game two of the weekend series on Saturday at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Diamond 'Dogs got a head start over the Falcons with an RBI single from Grady Morgan to drive in Eddie Saldivar.

Fresno State and Air Force sat at a standstill for the next three innings. Bobby Blandford led off the bottom of the fifth with a first-pitch long ball to right field. Michael McKernan singled up the middle and was driven in by a stand-up triple down the right-field line by Eddie Saldivar. Grady Morgan made it a 5-0 game with an RBI double that plated Tommy Hopfe.

An RBI single put the Falcons on the board in the top of the seventh, but Rocco Peppi answered back with a solo shot over the scoreboard in left field to close scoring for both teams at 6-1.

NOTES

Fresno State snapped Air Force's six-game conference win streak as its record drops to 6-2.

Rocco Peppi extended his hit streak to 16 straight games with his solo home run.

The Bulldogs broke a five-game losing streak against the Falcons.

With a win tomorrow, the Bulldogs will be tied with Air Force for first place in the conference.

Fresno State will conclude the weekend series with Air Force on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
