FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to the Air Force Falcons in the weekend's opener on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs were first to cross the plate. Michael McKernan singled, Eddie Saldivar doubled and Rocco Peppi drove them both in with an RBI single that extended his hit streak to 15 games.
Bulldog ace Jake Dixon held the Falcons deadlocked through six innings with eight strikeouts and only one walk before being relieved by Victor Arreola.
Grady Morgan extended the Bulldog lead to three with a solo shot to left field in the seventh.
The Falcons began their rally in the top of the eighth with a two-run home run over the scoreboard.
Air Force surged ahead, 4-3, with a two-run homer. The Bulldogs did not recover and dropped game one of the series.
NOTES
Rocco Peppi advanced his hit streak to 15 straight games with two hits on the night.
Jake Dixon lowered his ERA from 2.66 to 2.23 with six scoreless innings and has hit the 25-season strikeout milestone with eight in the series opener.
With the win, the Falcons extend their conference win streak to six games.
