'Dogs drop midweek to LMU

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team dropped a nail-biter, 12-8 against the LMU Lions on Tuesday night at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lions scored a pair of runs in the first inning with an RBI single and a bases-loaded hit by pitch.

Fresno State knotted the score at 2 with home runs from Rocco Peppi and Bobby Blandford in the first and second innings.

LMU and Fresno State each scored two in the third to keep it tied, 4-4.

The Lions took a one-run lead in the fourth with a solo shot down the right-field line.

Rocco Peppi and Tommy Hopfe pushed the Bulldogs into a 7-5 lead in the sixth with back-to-back RBI singled to plate Bobby Blandford, Michael McKernan and Eddie Saldivar.

A two-run long ball from the Lions set the score at 7-7 in the top of the seventh, but the Bulldogs regained the lead in the bottom of the frame from an Eddie Saldivar RBI single.

The Lions crept up again in the eighth with a solo home run to tie the game. In the top of the ninth, the Lions hit a two-out grand slam to make it a 12-8 game. The Bulldogs were not able to rally and fell to the Lions.

NOTES

The Bulldog pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts.

Fresno State's offense was led by Tommy Hopfe, who went three for five on the night with a double and three RBIs.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs are set to host Mountain West-leading Air Force this weekend in a three-game series at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
