SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team snagged another series win with a 6-2 victory over the San Jose State Spartans on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State scored their first run in the top of the first without a hit, as lead-off batter Eddie Saldivar got on base with a four-pitch walk, advanced to third on groundouts and scored on a wild pitch.
An error by the Spartan shortstop gave the Bulldogs another run, sending Ben Newton over the plate.The Spartans got on the board in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to tie the game at two.
To start the seventh, Justin Stransky crushed his first home run in a Bulldog uniform over the left-field wall.
Fresno State extended their lead in the top of the eighth with a three-run no-doubt bomb to left field to make it a 6-2 ballgame.
The Diamond 'Dogs held the Spartans and took the series win with a 6-2 victory.
NOTES
Justin Stransky recorded the Bulldogs' 17th home run of the season, his seventh of his collegiate career and first as a Diamond 'Dog.
Victor Arreola pitched in relief for starter Jack Anker and went for 3.1 innings with only two hits and no earned runs.
Murf Gray led the team with three RBIs brought in by his third homer of the season.
The Bulldogs remain undefeated in series played this season.
With a 14-5 record, the Bulldogs are off to their best start since 2011 when Fresno State started 17-2 through 19 games.
